The characteristics of titanium alloys affecting turning and milling are as follows: Low density, low hardness, low thermal conductivity, high chemical activity at high temperature.What should be paid attention to in processing according to these points?Let us to tell you:
1.Low heat transfer coefficient, that is, no heat transfer.During processing, heat accumulates on the surface of the workpiece,it is very easy to make the cutting tool temperature is too high resulting in a burning tool, so it is required that the cutting tool quality is good, and the cutting speed should be low (low speed, low feed).
2.The cutting tool is best to choose titanium alloy special tool,if not, you can also use the carbide tool, the higher the hardness, the better, it is recommended that more than 55 degrees.Because the higher the hardness of the tool, the tighter the texture, the better the heat transfer effect.And try not to use coated tool,the titanium alloy material will react with the titanium in the coating, resulting in a sticky knife.
3.In rough machining, the less margin is left, the better.Titanium alloy low density, low hardness, the material is very cotton, easy to happen cutter back-off.It will only happen the cutting is not in place during rough machining, and will not occur overcutting.In order to avoid "cutter back-off" lead to the size not in place and repeated machining,leave as little margin as possible to improve processing efficiency.
4.Cooling measures should be taken during processing,never dry cut. More attention should be paid to the fine machining of small trace cutting, titanium alloy particles with small particle size will burn at about 200 degrees.
5.Large plants where conditions permit usually use liquid nitrogen for processing cooling (liquid nitrogen at minus 170 degrees is converted into a gas at minus 50 degrees by a heat exchanger,spray directly on the contact area between the cutter and the workpiece),in order to improve the processing efficiency.
